You’d be hard pressed to find a better cycling destination than Denmark. With over 12,000km of sign-posted cycle routes, gentle terrain, inspirational nature and short distances between amenities, Denmark is a country made for cyclists. It’s safe, easy and great fun. So get on your bike and take a cycling holiday in Denmark.
Copenhagen is world famous for its biking culture and now officially the first Bike City in the World. Last year, it was also voted the ‘Best city for cyclists’ and the ‘World’s most liveable city’. The Danes are well known for their love of cycling and cities all around the world are now looking at ways to copy this phenomenon. It really is biking heaven for the cyclist in Copenhagen with over 390 kilometres of designated bike lanes.
Cycling accounts for 17% of all trips in Denmark and 4% of the traffic in kilometers.Cycling accounts for 24 % of all commuter trips.85 % of all bike trips are under 5 km.On average, Danes cycle 1,5 km a day.
Danish men and women almost bike the same. But women cycle a bit more often ( 0.5 vs. 0.46 trips per day) while the men cycle slightly longer 1.80 vs. 1.48 km) than women.
Nine out of ten Danes own a bicycle. In 2013, almost 500,000 bicycles were sold in Denmark. 60,709 bicycles were reported stolen in 2014, 18,100 electrical bicycles were sold in 2013.
