Orø Kirke

This is my first picture in 2006, so first of all I want to wish you all a very happy new year or in Danish: Rigtig godt nytår!
The last one and a half week I was in a little town called Vellerup, about 60km from Copenhagen. A very nice area on the peninsula Hornsherred between the Isefjord and Roskildefjord in the North of the island of Sjælland.
In the middle of the Isefjord, the little island Orø is located, that is connected with the main land (Hammer Bakker) by a little ferry. On one of our walks my father and I took this ferry and visited the island.
Here you can see the church of the 'biggest' town on the island, Bybjerg.

The island Orø is as said located in the Isefjord. It is a part of Holbæk Kommune in Vestsjællands Amt. The island is 14km2 and has 1,000 inhabitants in four towns: Bybjerg, Gamløse, Næsby and Brønde, but there are also about 1,200 holiday cottages on the island. Apart from the ferry to Hammer Bakker, is there also a connection to the city of Holbæk.

The church you can see here is located in Bybjerg. I read they started building the church in 12th century, but the present tower is newer.
The church is built in the same (typically Danish) style as Herfølge Kirke
A picture from the other side of the church is posted by my father and can be seen here.

As you can see, a lot of snow, I think there was about 30cm snow, mostly fallen last Thursday. This picture was taken on the last day of the year, when we also got little snow.
I hope you will like this snow landscape and the church!
