Photographer's Note

This is a wall painting from Aastrup Church in Denmark from between 1500 and 1510 a.D. It shows the passion of the Christ, but as tarring and feathering as well as burning people at the stake was common in those days, such were the torments of Christ according to the medieval artist. Makes one wonder wheter the torments according to Mel Gibson are just the 21st century version of this - and the real passion was something different altogether.
I already mentioned the importance of these paintings here .
I cropped, resized, enhanced and sharpened for the web.
