Photographer's Note

Looking back on 2006

At the end of every year, we somehow like to look back on the year that has passed. I would like to do the same with this picture, that I found suitable for this purpose for several reasons, most of all because it is a reflection shot, taken a couple of weeks before I moved from Denmark back to The Netherlands in the end of June.

The picture was taken at Kongens Nytorv in the very heart of Copenhagen. In front of Charlottenborg, a museum, there are two of these kind of advertising columns. Normally the posters for current and coming exhibitions hang here, but when I passed this place, there was obviously no exhibition, so the square behind me was reflected in the black glass.
Above the glass you can read Kunstudstilling, which means Art Exhibition.

Kongens Nytorv (The King’s New Square) was built in 1670 by King Christian V. The square is connected with another important square, Rådhuspladsen (Town Hall Square), by the shopping street Strøget. Buildings that can be found at Kongens Nytorv are det Kongelige Teater (Royal Theatre), the big department store Magasin du Nord and Hotel d'Angleterre (in this picture this is the white building at the right hand side).

I've posted two other pictures from Kgs. Nytorv:
- Kongens Nytorv Reflections
- Kongens Nytorv by Night

I hope you like this picture and I would like to wish you all "EEN FIJNE JAARWISSELING", as we say in Dutch, it means something like "a nice changing of the year". :-)
