Photographer's Note

View on Osijek riverfront. Most of the people that visit Osijek take almost the same photo as this one since the left bank of Drave river is surely one of best places to photograph the city center.

Photo shows largest church in Slavonia region, the concathedral of st. Peter and Paul. It is also the second tallest church in Croatia with height of around 90 meters, and it is also tallest building outside of capital city of Zagreb.

Second building in the photo is Hotel Osijek, largest hotel in Slavonia. It is about 60 meters tall, and for little less then 30 years it was tallest skyscraper in Osijek, until the Eurodom complex was constructed few years ago.

In front of the Hotel Osijek is popular Osijek Promenade, largest pedestrian zone in Croatia. The architect of Promenade was Radovan Miscevic who was given reward for this project on the exhibition of European pedestrian zones in Barcelona.

On the location of today Hotel Osijek and surrounding residential and commercial buildings were mostly industrial complexes like brewery which was the first one in Croatia. It dates back to 1664. and it still produces beer - one of best in Croatia I must say :)
Unfortunately communist authorities decided to demolish that complex and so Osijek lost one of it's most valuable industrial complexes.
