Photographer's Note

Medieval castle of Grobnik, as seen from Veli vrh hill above Rijeka, with Crni vrh and Obruc mountains in the background.
Grobnik was rather important during the times of the Ottoman conquests, being the lookout point that warned about the enemy's approach.
Legends go much farther, stating that the plain by the name "Grobnicko polje" (Grobnik field) once was scene of a terrible clash between the Ottomans and the few defending Croatian knights, God coming to the rescue, raining stones on the advancing Ottoman hordes, thus securing Croatian victory...
It's only a legend, anyway.
But the small medieval town, lacking newer buildings, still has some charm from the bygone times.
