Well, my sequel of shots from Haskovo is near its end.
A town that is a typical representative of that particular mixture of something from Europe, something from Asia, something unique felt only on the Balkans, nowhere else, in regions of mixed religeous rites.
When in Haskovo, drink Astika, the beer produced here the inhabitants of Haskovo are so proud of:)
If you are not afraid of a heatwave, summer is there, but, I personally would rather go in spring or autumn when it isn't that hot.
Hehe, you might come upon a rare scene-elderly women preparing lyutenitsa- a sort of tomato paste-it's a ritual the participation in which needs a great deal of patience, tomatoes, aubergines, red peppers, spices, even some herbs and you stir this mixture in a huge rectangular dish somewhere on the threshold of your survived house:) and with the huge spoon or laddle in your hand you might look like an ancient pagan figure making for a magic:))
Well, the main walking area in Haskovo isn't likely to offer you such sights:)
But.......I loved this provincial drowsy Bulgarian town gradually undergoing changes influenced by market economy.
