‘Kortrijk - Bookmark with Broel Tower’

It's been a long time since I've shown a photo in bookmark format.

In Kortrijk there are two Broel Towers (in Dutch: Broeltorens), one on each side of the river Lys (Leie).
The Broel Towers are a listed monument and an important symbol of the city.
In Dutch ‘oe’ is pronounced like the German 'u' (without umlaut).

The towers are, together with the Artillerytower the last remaining parts of the medieval wall surrounding the city.
Although they look identical, they were not built at the same time. One was built in 1385 to control the traffic on the river. The second one was built 30 years later and was used as an armory.

It’s a pity that in Kortrijk new construction is allowed immediately next to their historic eye-catchers and then not even very special new construction but apartment buildings.
Construction has also started on the other side. There I was able to crop the construction crane in this photo.

In the WS two pictures taken inside the tower.
Exceptionally, the northern tower, the Ingelborch Tower, could be visited because works of the project 'Paradise Kortrijk 2021’ were displayed there.
