Photographer's Note

De Panne has become our steady plan B over the last year. Via via we know people who have a seaside apartment there and we can use it from time to time if we want to take a break from whatever we want to take a break from. It's not the most adventurous place to travel to, but glad it is there. There is always De Panne, we say.

DE PANNE is a Flemish seaside town the furthest away from the centre. It's the seaside town nearest to the French border, which explains why you see and hear quite a lot of French there. I suppose they call the town Le Panne then:)

It's a pretty typical Flemish seaside place: a big sandy beach, a pedestrianized seaside promenade with small shops and plenty of taverns, some dunes and lots of highrise apartment blocks, and then a small town with some bigger shops attached to it inland.

THIS PICTURE was shot just after we'd arrived there. It shows the village church which is located on De Panne's main shopping street, which runs from the town square up to the beach front. It contains all the usual chains and a really good bakery that also sells my favourite brand of pralines.

I rushed past, just after we'd arrived there on a Friday evening a few weeks ago, in search of a mailbox to post two cards: one for condolences, one to celebrate the arrival of a new baby. Life in the blue hour, and I had my camera with me because I wanted to post those cards first thing before going to apartment.

Sorry for not being too active here lately. Things are pretty hectic on the job.

Stay safe. Keep sharing & caring.
