DAMME

I took this picture this afternoon, during a cold but sunny day minus 3į Celsius, this was a good bicycle trip 32 KM

Our Lady's Church

Heavy loads

In 1578 Damme was captured and plundered by the Geuzen. The church was later restored, but did not recover. the population decreased noticeably, especially when Damme also became a garrison town of the Spaniards. The burdens for the great church were too heavy for the community. Part of the monumental house of God was demolished, including the spire. Now the remaining dividing walls between main and side aisles give an idea of the size of the original church.

I hope you like it
