History:

Kiosk on the market in Aalter
One of the festivities of Aalter-Kermis 1908 was the inauguration of the kiosk on the market in Aalter. The market was enlarged in the mid-19th century and then took on its current shape. Aalter's market function became increasingly important, especially as a butter market. At the end of the 1880s, a "butter kitty" was erected in the middle of the market, in which scales and other accessories were stored. This was indeed not much more than a "kot" or loft.
The multi-faceted function of the building would become apparent over the years. During the interwar period, the kiosk functioned for commemorative parties, religious gatherings, political meetings, ... The music companies had a difficult time in those years and it was only after the Second World War that the Catholic fanfare Eendracht started to rediscover the building.
