2018 name Cornerhouse

Picture taken during a wonderful May day 2018, one year ago

The glory of Male is part of the Brugse Vrije, and is legally and administratively independent. Before the glory becomes a barony, there is already a house here called "het hooghe huus", where the law is discussed.
The house has been described as "of a village within the village of Male ... on the houc vander strate ... over the moat of casteele".
In 1560 the glory, under Jean Lopez Gallo, is elevated to barony. The mayor of Male, Louis of Ghistele, buys the house in 1566. The "hooghe huus" is now also called "stadhuys". A thorough repair follows, with the design of a "aldermen camere". The town hall has a "civil ghevanghenisse" in the basement for minor crimes, and the castle also has a "pit of stone". The house is leased until the sale of the property in 1799. The tenant who also runs an inn is also jailer and herdsman (1574) and caretaker (17th century).

I hope that you enjoy it
