I visited Diksmuide by train, a city on the IJzer in West Flanders, 25 km from Ostend and 25 km from the French border.

Diksmuide location:
Yacht harbor along the river IJzer

The city center of Diksmuide is centrally located along the IJzer and is the largest core in the municipality. The other villages are scattered on the large territory. The larger villages consist of a core along the largest approach roads, with ribbon development. The smaller villages are located in the middle of the fields and have few connecting roads. Between the villages there are still farms scattered over the flat landscape. The municipality of Diksmuide is situated on a transition from De Polders in the west and Houtland in the east.

The Polders are a low, expansive and flat area. You will find peat soils, low-lying, moist clay soils and higher-lying dry, sandy creek ridges. The valley of the river IJzer is the lowest and ensures that the Polders penetrate a little further inland here. In addition, there are many canals in the landscape for draining the soil

I hope that you enjoy it
