Photographer's Note

This is the facade of the Berlaymont building in Brussels, the seat of the European Commission, with the European Flag as the only flag flying from the 26 flagpoles in front of building (one for each Member State and one for this flag). The building was recently renovated at astronomical cost to the Belgian State, but as it is very much a symbol of the European Union, it was decided to renovate rather than replace the building by a new one.

The photo was taken on 11 March, which has been declared International day against terrorism recently - in remembrance of the terrorist attacks on four trains in Madrid on 11 March 2004, exactly two and a half years after the attack on the World Trade Center on 11 September 2001.

Technically I mirrored the image for better composition, clarified a bit and sharpened before resizing. I also sharpened after resizing.
