On Sunday, September 17th, the commemoration took place around the 'Slag van' Molentje 'in Moerkerke / Damme.

Commemoration "Battle of the Trumpet"

On my photo you can see the Canadian flags between the trees, at this place where the flags stand, the Candezen crossed the canal 1944.9.13.
I was then with my parents together on the farm on 4 km further to the east
This modest monument at the crossroads of 't Molentje and Leopoldvaart Oost, was founded in memory of one of the most horrible events in the history of Moerkerke, the Battle of the Molentje.
This place became the Canadian march in Belgium temporarily stopped by the German occupier.
It costs the lives of many soldiers and citizens.
Annually this tragic event becomes solemnly commemorated in September.
