During my visit a year ago I made this picture of the Grand Place is the central square of Brussels.

The square, famous for its aesthetic and historical wealth, is surrounded by the City Hall, the King's House and many guild houses.
History of the Market Place
Eyes cans in Brussels on exploration in the Brussels pentagon, on the Grote Markt played many historical events off.
A brief overview: 1523:
The Inquisition put Voes Hendrik and Jan Van Essen, the first Protestant martyrs are burned at the stakern 1563: the counts Egmont and Horn are being decapitated August 1695: Brussels is attacked during the War of the League of Augsburg (Nine Years War). The French troops led by Marshal Villeroy, damage during a bombing most of the houses on the “Grote Markt”, ( Dutch) which some in wood. Only the facade and tower of City Hall, the purpose of the shelling, and some stone walls remained standing between the burning cannon balls. The various guilds houses built quickly again, this time in stone. This also the home of Brewer Guild, which now houses the Museum Brouwer.
