Photographer's Note

Photo taken in the foyer of the Bourla theatre in Antwerp. The foyer is permanently open to the public as a café and tearoom after a restoration gave back its splendour.

The Bourla theatre has 900 seats. The neoclassic building was designed in 1927 by city architect Pierre Bourla. Construction started in 1929 but was delayed because of the Belgian Revolution, leading to the creation of teh State of Belgium.
The theatre was finished in 1834 en opened under the name of "Grand Théâtre" or "Théâtre Royal Français", after the French speaking company that played in the theatre at that time.
