Photographer's Note

I hesitate to share this story.

Trappist monasteries exist primarily in Belgium (one in the netherlands). Generally to be trappist, the brewing of the beer must be completed primarily by the monks and proceeds should go toward maintaining the monastary and some local public services for the community.

Here, in Belgium, one of the beers produced in a trappist monastary was voted number one beer in the world by at least one prominent website. This was about 3 years ago. Since then, it has been very hard for the locals, who once were able to enjoy the beer with ease, to obtain it. It is unfortunate all the publicity the abbey received. Especially considering that the monks will not increase production based on demand (God before brewing).

Due to this publicity though (and considering the beer can only be bought from the monastary by appointment or at the bar across the street), I visited here for an afternoon with two friends and tasted what many consider the best beer in the world.

There were a few people enjoying the nice day by bicycle. All were very friendly and would wave to the people at the bar.

I decreased saturation and added a little vignetting. Thanks for looking
