Castle Beauvoorde - Furnes
Castle Beauvooorde is one of the best kept secrets in Flanders . The castle is situated in the village Wulveringem near Furnes . The castle probably originated in the 12th century and was completely rebuilt in 1600 by the high bailiff Jacob Bryarde . The castle remained the property of the Bryarde family until 1838 .

Late 19th century, the eccentric nobleman Arthur Merghelynck bought the castle . He showed it to be restored 17th - century standards , with a beautiful castle park. Merghelynck was a real , painstaking romantic. When he bought the castle in 1875 , he took it into his head to it restored . Castle in 17th century style Not only the exterior was given a "new" jacket , but also the inside . Merghelynck stowed the building full of real and fake 17th -century furniture and other curiosities . He also had a beautiful French -English castle park construction . Everything is there today so when , as in 1908, when Merghelynck died .
Merghelynck was a special person : as a nobleman he dared to marry a commoner girl and so drove his entire family on the antique cabinet . Then he disinherited everyone . When will he left the castle on site at the Royal Academy of Dutch Language and Literature . The unique castle was from 1998 a new , multi-purpose content, so you can enjoy it even better.
