‘Kortrijk - Creating smart plastics for happy pets - 2’

I’ve already shown a similar picture in the WS of my previous photo. But afterwards I thought that this one here was just a bit better and at the same time I also like to show the belfry tower of Kortrijk in a main photo.

The belfry tower is located on the Grand Market Square (Grote Markt) and was part of the medieval ‘old’ or ‘small’ Cloth Hall dating from 1411.

On the other side of the Grand Square you find the historic town hall. See pictures in the WS.
The architectural style is an example of the Gothic-Renaissance transitional style. The 14 statue niches in the facade are filled with statues of the Counts of Flanders.
But I readily admit that John (jhm) once showed a better photo of this town hall.
Of course there happened to be a horse cart passing by when John took the picture :)

As for the artwork, I am repeating part of the note accompanying my previous photo.
‘Happy together’ is a project of the South Korean artist Choi Jeong-Hwa who is considered one of the founders of the Korean pop art movement.

For this artwork Choi Jeong-Hwas collaborated with the Belgian family business Moderna.
They are a great match with their slogan ‘Creating smart plastics for happy pets’.
The modern monument made of colourful cat-litter boxes and pet beds from Moderna will be fully recycled by the company once Paradise Kortrijk 2021 is over, and it will be transformed into elegant, new pet supplies.

This way, the artist tries to illustrate the harmony between man and nature. He suggests a method to make plastic reusable, and to rethink the spirit of plastic as something that is not merely disposable.
By literally stepping into daily life, his playful practice comments on the privileged environment of art institutions, and he questions the art market in the context of mass consumption.
Choi Jeong-Hwas explores the artificial and the permanent through plastic, and refuses to categorise his art.
Materials: Plastic, steel.

From 26 June to 24 October 2021 the international art project ‘Paradise Kortrijk 2021’ takes place.
It’s the project's second triennial.
'Paradise Kortrijk 2021' focuses on the utopian dream of paradise, with a range of interpretations of that concept.
The project draws inspiration from our spirit of the age. It’s a reaction to our current environment, which sometimes seems miles away from a hopeful, positive and utopian environment.
