This is last winter picture 2011-2012 with a sight about the frozen Napoleon canal

These picture has been taken during a stroll in the small city Damme, nice afternoon with a lot son and no clouds,.

Winter in Begium;
This past winter, also according to the astronomical calendar ends next weekend, it was rather cold. The meteorological winter in the months December, January and February resulted in a mean temperature of + 2.3 degrees Celsius. Which is a degree lower than normal, that is to say, an average of about 1971 to 2000. The first half of March has given a lot of water with floods in Flanders with water in a lot houses.
February is the last month of the meteorological winter. The normal values of the average daily temperature in Uccle lie between 2 and 4 ° C. During the last decade the temperature begins to rise. Normal values of maximum temperature for this month are around 6 ° C in Low and Middle Belgium but amount to only about 1 ° C on the summits of the Ardennes. Normal values for the minimum temperature are between 1 and -4 ° C.

Hi John,

Wonderful view of the frozen canal. The sky was so blue and clear and you show us a lot of it. Beautiful balanced composition, with the red accent. stunning colourts and sharpness. In Poland it was also very cold but in rather short period. Now luckily winter is over, I hope.

my favorite part of this photo is the windmill way off into the distance, in the depth of the photo. Without that, i think the photo would not have the same visual impact.

Hello John - Now this is a cracking image. Beautifully composed, I love the large expanse of softly graduated sky and the horizon placed of the third is perfectly placed. The diminishing perspective with several lines converging in the distance is compositionally strong. As to the scene delightful. The red jacket makes a good counterpoint to the red roofs. Today in Lisbon, the temperature will reach 22º.
This beautiful image in Portugal is pure fancy:) Our sun of winter is wonderful, therefore many Belgians and Dutches pass the winter in Portugal in auto-caravans some with the grandsons smallest.

Wow! Another of your terrific canal shots. The winter scene under clear blue sky is superb. As always your depth of field and perspective are fantastic. In this shot I like the windmill close to the far bank and the couple walking on the near side. The red jacket certainly catches the eye against the white landscape.

Hello John,

The oblique line of the canal gives deepness, while the eyes are attracted to the other elements in the image. The composition is well balanced with the house, the mill and the couple walking. I like to see the water trying to get above the ice on the canal which is a sihn of spring. Very good natural colors.

Hello John,

This is an amazing shot showing so many details in one image. I like the snow covered road and the sidewalk which makes the image very bright. The person with the red coat grabs the attention. Hello John! This is a lovely winter scene. The colors are so rich, vibrant, striking and very frozen. The low POV creates a nice DOF and a nice view as well as the elements of buildings create a nice texture to the photo. The second level exposure gives the trees a nice blur which denotes the chilly breeze. I love the over all effect lights on the image, it stimulates an understated look. Great Job! Well captured!

Dag John,
Met het prachtige weer van vandaag ben je er zeker met de fiets en met de camera op uitgetrokken.
Op zulk moment is het ook heel fijn even terug te blikken op de koude winter. Maar toch niet koud genoeg (of net niet lang genoeg) om te kunnen schaatsen op dit kanaal. Alhoewel de ijzige lucht, de sneeuw en het ijs op het water doen vermoeden dat het toen zeker niet warm was.
De persoon met de rode jas brengt een vrolijke kleur op deze foto. Toch is het de windmolen die mijn aandacht krijgt. Mooi geplaatst op de foto en een goede compositie met de diagonale lijnen van het kanaal en van de baan die naar elkaar toe lopen waar de bomenrij begint.

a superb composition, so delightful and elegant. I love how you've enclosed in the bottom third of the frame the sweeping view of the winter landscape and with marvellous clarity captured the lovely features of this place. Depth and perspective are captivating, lighting is brilliant and colours absolutely natural and lovely. I'm very impressed by the sky and the way it functions in your composition. Hi John,

The decision to show mostly sky here was a good one I think, it is pure and without any variation. It makes the world under it seem so small, like a scale model. The naked trees and frozen water are quite unique elements in this image. I can only imagine living in a climate like this! Superb image.

So flat, where ever I look ice and snow. It feels cold indeed. Good to include the two walking towards the house on the right, it gives us a sense of dimensions. Good photo job
