Rozenhoedkaai, Bruges, a photo from West-Vlaanderen, Flanders

Photographer's Note

Cold but clear February night; very few people about; but the full moon was too good to miss, so back to the hotel for the tripod. This scene is, I'm afraid, the usual mug-shot that Bruges gets, but I hope that the night, the black and white, and the moon, may revive a dying cliche...

HI Will!
I`ve been there this year at about noon,the worst time to take some photos.....but I loved this view.
This is a great B&W night shot with the full moon.Perfect sharpness overall and many fine details to view at this great architecture.

Hello Will,
I've always really liked Bruges but was not aware that it could be a place from a fairy tale. This seems really a picture of a storybook.
Some facades are somewhat hidden in the dark but the beautifully lit tower of the belfry and the full moon do compensate that amply.

From my last trip there, I also have some photos at the exact point where you once stood, but not a chance to have the same impact like yours, when you have that "Méliès" style perfect full moon hanging upon the perfect location. B&W is a good idea to make it different from the myraids of others.

Hi Will
Thank you for your comment on my shot taken from exactly the same spot. My image was taken in April this year but I was also there in February 2010, two weeks before you, on the 4th. So it looks like we are attracted to the same places at the same time and, as you say, we may meet one day!
About your image, I think it's a great idea to present it in monochrome. The contrast between the belfry and the dark sky is stunning.
I'm a bit surprised to see the full moon there on the 19th Feb but it is a beautiful image and definitely one of my favs on TE.
