Oudemanskreek (Oldmancreeck)

Oudemanskreek with sculpture group
The Oudemanskreek is a creek to the south of Waterland-Oudeman, which is part of the East Flemish municipality of Sint-Laureins.
This north-south running creek connects in the south to the Oostpolder creek and has a varying width. Halfway you will find the De Roste Muis inn and Torenhoeve to the south.
At the height of the Roste Mouse, in the water, is the sculpture group If the fox preaches the passion, farmer watches your geese, by Chris Ferket (1995), a playful reference to the epic Van den vos Reynaerde, which can be found in this environment.
Before the flood of 1375, nearby (in the Goedleven district) was the monastery Elmare, which appears in the animal epic when Reynaert assures Canteclaer not to eat any more meat and took a pilgrim's staff and robe from Elmare as a penitent.

Hello John,
I found a copy of this sculpture placed in the Dutch town of Hulst, so I could see it from more closely. Especially the geese are quite funny to watch, but the entire sculpture looks better from a distance when standing here in the water. It makes a strong impression and becomes very eye-catching in this unexpected place. It adds a striking focal point to the flat scenery. On this cloudy day it was also surrounded by fine reflections in the water.

You have captured well the ripples on the water. The length of the canal is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the clouds. There is a good contrast between the colors of the picture. Have a nice day.

Hello John,

I was interested to read your notes, explaining the significance of the sculpture. (Which from the thumbnail, I perceived as a group of birds!)
Your photograph reveals the character of the Belgian countryside with its flat landscape and huge skies! The creek acts as a most effective guide towards the focal sculpture, which stands out strongly from its surroundings.

Hallo John,
Op het eerste zicht meende ik dat het echte eenden of ganzen waren die toevallig mooi op een rijtje zaten.
Een prachtig wijds zicht waarbij het vele water en de wolkenlucht die een groot deel van de foto uitmaakt een gevoel van oneindigheid oproepen.
Mooi met de groene oevers en de boom met weerspiegeling links.

funny view with these geese in the middle of the river, as inside a boat. the weather wasn't easy but you got a nice photo. nice view of the area around giving us an idea of the place.

A cool shot of the wetlands even on a greyish day showing its natural beauty and gentle feel. Attractive how those birds become the centrestage of the scene and further lead viewer's eye into the whole depth. Great shot

A tree reflection on left was the first noticed object when opened the thumbnail, John.
Than, looking at the whole, I could appreciate the wide canal view over the vast flat-land.
Despite the couldy day, an excellent outcome.

at the first sight I didn't expect it to be an artwork, I rather thought it will be a group of birds having a rest.

It took me some time to realize I was looking at the sculpture. Well done artwork and I especially like how it is centered with all the still surrounding. Reflections fill the photograph avoiding the feeling of loneliness.
