Saint Margaret's Church (Sint-Margriete)

Place Sint-Margriete
Portal Icon Christianity
The Sint-Margaretakerk is the church of Sint-Margriete, a district of Sint-Laureins in the Belgian province of East Flanders. She was built in 1881-1882.

The church is dedicated to Margaret of Antioch and is the fifth church in this village. Former churches that were located at various locations disappeared due to flooding of the Western Scheldt.

The tub of the Gothic baptismal font, paintings and the statue of Saint Margaret from 1750 by the Bruges sculptor Pieter van Walleghem are objects from earlier churches.

Above the neo-Gothic main altar from 1898, a retable has been erected, representing Margaret's martyrdom.

I hope you like it.
