Maldegem

Stilt walking, from Merchtem during event to Maldegem.

Stilt walking is traditionally seen as a child's play or a national sport. Some stilt walkers learned how to walk stilt at home, while others got the hang of it at school or in the youth movement. Even today, a few stilts can still be found in many suitcases. Stilt walking, however, is much more than fun: stilt walking has been part of the social, ritual and religious customs of people and communities around the world for thousands of years. From Asia (China, Japan and Vietnam), to Europe (France and Belgium) to Africa and America, stilts are active.

I hope that you enjoy it
