Photographer's Note

Hi everybody, I've been away for a at times can get too busy! Fortunately I am officially on holiday now so I have some more time.

This picture was taken the end of June. A thunderstorm had just passed and just as we thought the day would end in clouds, the sky unveiled this great sunset and the colours that go with it. I fetched my tripod and shot.

The picture was taken from the window at the back of our apartment. The houses, of which you see the back side, are typical 19th century row houses, built for the work force which labored hard in (mostly textile) factories. Ghent was one of the first heavily industrialized cities in Europe during the Industrial Revolution. Nowadays it is mostly Turkish and Eastern European immigrants who live in this area, called "Rabot", which is the name of an old medieval fortified lock nearby. The area is one of the poorer in Ghent but it is supposed to get a positive boost once the new court of justice, pictured elsewhere on the site, will be ready.
