EVENT in the rain (showers)
Adegem Cemetery
I have asked permission from the guides from Canada to be allowed to photograph this man
Among other things, this man Tony Pearson, (97 year old) my parents freed me from the enemy, being the German army.
They came to liberate us on 13 and 14 September 1944.
On Sunday 8 September, Maldegem Adegem paid tribute to the fallen soldiers of the Second World War, who are buried in the Adegem Canadian War Cemetery.
The ceremony with flower tribute started at 10 a.m. and took place in the presence of a representative of the King, the Canadian, Polish and British ambassadors or their representatives, various former combatants and patriotic associations. “On the occasion of 75 years of liberation, a Lockheed C-130 Hercules and the Formation team The Victors flew over the cemetery at the start of the ceremony.
In addition, in the context of the commemoration of the Battle of the Scheldt, a Canadian delegation attended part of the ceremony in Maldegem. Then those people travel on to the ceremony in Antwerp.
A large audience had come up
I hope that you enjoy it

Hello John,
This is a comparatively young veteran, only 97 years old. ;-) The last one you honored was 100. It is as always a very carefully taken photo that seems to do him full justice.
Best regards,
Gert

Good evening, John!
What would Europe look like if Germany had won the war?
Those who came over to rescue the free world did not only liberate Italy, France, Belgium, Luxembourg or the Netherlands.
They also liberated Germany.
They were so many, now they are so few!
I incidentally got acquainted with an American who had not only been member of the allied forces, but also happened to pass almost every site where me and my wife or her ancestors have lived. He passed away couple of years ago. This Canadian gentleman is still with us, and you portrayed him very, very well.
Freedom is not for free, and he should know best.

Hallo John,

Another great wonderful soldier picture. Medals with pride bight and shining. Tony is a hero. I was in the Airforce as an Analyst, stationed mostly in Asia. The 1960's and early 70's were tough years. I did what duty was asked - though it was nothing like WWI or WWII. Tony, I am sure, with these honors, served Canada and the Allies well - I stand in Salute to him. Great Photos John

Hello John, you are very skilled in portrait photography, this is an honest and very sharp shot of this elderly gentleman. The shallow depth of field works really well.
Thanks for sharing, regards Jean.

Hi John,
You have captured well the wondering expression of the man. The point of view is showing thw deatils of the phisionomy of the veteran and of his medals. It is clear and sharp. Have a nice day.

Hallo John,
Opnieuw een uitstekend portret van deze oudere heer die op zijn leeftijd de verre reis ondernomen heeft om de gebeurtenis van de bevrijding te komen vieren.
Zijn medailles en de klaproos maken er een kleurrijk beeld van.
Mooi gedaan!
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi John
A good portrait of this veteran - none of them are getting any younger in fact they all have to be in their late 90s or older now.
cheers

Hello John, Another fantastic portrait of this old soldier. He looks wonderful for his age. Who would guess he is 97 years old. These events took place 75 years ago so the participants must be more than 95 years old. An amazing display of medals. Lovely poppy flower - the symbol of remembrance. were there also the Polish heroes?
Kind regards MAlgo

Dag John,
Rob

Hallo John, that veteran has already received many medals. He came to Belgium to attend to a commemorative event at Adegem cemetery. I like his clothing style as well as his beret. Good close up.

Hi John
A fine portraiture smartly attired to his best and I have a great respect to all the brave souls. I'm sure he has some interesting tales to tell. Those look like the usual collection of beautiful ribbons & medals - colourful
and glossy extremely gluing the eye. Well done to him, this guy is real hero - veteran from the world war to present day. I bet you are really proud of him, lovely image, pleasure to view. Congrats
Best regards

Hi John,
great portrait. Fantastic quality.
Interesting story behind it. I know some Polish soldiers were much involved in this campaign.
It is great to hear that people keep these important events alive in their memory and that the people who survived are invited and listened to.
I have uploaded a photo related to another war hero here but surprisingly a TE member laughed at it.
In spite of this I believe we owe our lives to the people like the man in your photo, and we should treat them like real heroes.
Great reportage,
M
