BRUSSELS
2015 Archive:
The De Clèves-Ravenstein House, also called Hotel Ravenstein or the former Hotel van Cleve-Ravenstein, is a former aristocratic mansion in the center of Brussels, built at the end of the fifteenth or early sixteenth century. It is located on Ravenstein Street, next to the Center for Fine Arts.
It is the only surviving Burgundian mansion in Brussels. It was originally part of a large body of buildings built by Adolf van Kleef-Ravenstein and his son Philip van Kleef. It is built in brick and sandstone in Brabant Gothic style. Part of the original buildings have been demolished and the buildings have been redesigned and restored several times.
I hope you like it

Hi John,
The red car is an eye-catcher. The point of view is showing the details of the De Clèves-Ravenstein House. The light is giving good rendering of the colours. Have a nice day.

Hallo John, that vast mansion has crossed the centuries. Its red brick facade restored has a lot of character. The arch leads to a courtyard used as a parking. A remarkable historical building in Brussels. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hello John,
It is a very impressive brick building and the entrance gate in the sidewall is magnificent. The overcast sky has filtered the sun-light and created very pleasant soft colours. The photo is taken from a good angle and the man on the bicycle adds life to the view of the street.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello John, I love buildings like this, so typical of your country. It is a very sharp shot, taken from a good angle so that we can appreciate the steeped gable ends, and the beautiful brickwork.
The cyclist adds a little action to the picture.
Lovely.
Kind regards, Jean.

Graag gedaan, John!
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi John,
It is an impressive mansion. White bricks around corners and windows are nice details. And your angle across the street is excellent. Grey weather is not optimal though.

hello John, Nice surprise with this view from Brussels. magnificent building of the palace in the brabant style. I remember it well from my visit. Strange that the street is so empty like during COVID, but the photo is from your archive.

Hi John
Beautiful shot of an interesting architecture and wonderful colours, and smartly framed by the greens. The pov reveals its beauty of this WHS site with extra element as the cyclist helps to rest the focus. Excellent shot along with your well written notes. Congrats

Hello John,
Thank you for the information about this building. For one which dates back to the fifteenth century, it is in a excellent state of repair, obviously highly valued by the people of Brussels.
You have chosen a fine aspect to include the view through the archway and timed the shot extremely well, to include the cyclist, pedalling merrily along the street.
As always, the exposure is top rate.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hallo John,
Heel mooie baksteenarchitectuur hier, zowel het poortje aan de rechterkant als de statige trapgevels van het gebouw. De compositie is mooi in balans en de fietser is een goede toevoeging.

A very clear and distinct picture of the arcghitecture's style in old Brussels, John, evey single red-brick and other stones remarkbly shown.
The guy passing on his bikes gave motion to the scene. Beautiful outcome, my cong.s,

Hi John
when I think of Belgium, for some reason I think of building construction like this...perhaps that's a stereotype, but that's the truth. and its a positive, because these buildings are very charming, historic, and photogenic. lovely shot, crisp and sharp. cheers

Hi John.
This is a fantastic building, which once restored looks wonderful, the contrast of the brick with the white stone of the windows, beautiful finishes of the roof.
Sharpness, lighting, color, and the magnificent composition; they are all perfectly made factors, in this beautiful image.
Well done. I like very much.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.
