Photographer's Note

"De Witte van Zichem" is a well known novel by Flemish writer Ernest Claes. It's the story of a teenager in the Flemish town of Zichem at the begin of the 1900's. "De Witte" (= the white one, whity) so called because of his white-blond hair is a playfull devil with a heart of gold who finds himself in all kinds of situations usually ending up with him getting caught and getting punished. Lightly based on a true figure, the novel reflects life wonderfully at the turn of the century and is great fun to read.

The statue of "De witte" in the town square of Zichem depicts not only the character from the book. He actually sits on the shoulders of the author.
