Photographer's Note

This cycling lane next to the train track going from Berchem to the Central Station is a location I know well.

Cycling in Antwerp can be a hell, but this excellent cycling lane is safely guarded from cars and from where I live it is the fastest way to get to the city centre. Unfortunatley once you reach the Central Station, it just stops and it's survival of the fittest again.

Two more things about what you see:

- The elevated construction next to the lane is where the trains tracks are. When Antwerp Central Station was built in the late 19th century, they cleverly decided to lift all the inner city train tracks one level op, so the cars and other traffic could pass underneath. It's still a fascinating construction, if you ask me.

- The young (Jewish) kid in the picture is riding a Vélo, which is the name of our bike sharing system. Those bikes are very popular.

Not so typical, I'm sorry to say, is that deep blue sky...
