Photographer's Note

I got up early,
got the kid to school,
and took a tram
to the other side.

THIS PICTURE was taken from the left bank of the river Scheldt. Though connected by several tunnels and officially very much a part of the city of Antwerp, most people still consider the largely undevelopped left bank to be "across the water", "over 't water" as we say in Flemish.

OH BUOY! A buoy is a float moored in water to mark a location, warn of danger, or indicate a navigational channel. This one, however, is one of many stranded in an art project on the left bank of the river Scheldt.

RED AND WHITE are the colours of the city, and of our football team, Royal Antwerp FC, which was founded in 1880 and is one of the oldest clubs in the world.

IN THE BACKGROUND you see the north end of central Antwerp. The building with the tower marks where the old harbour began.

note: This picture is the companion shot to yesterday's post. I try not to post similar shots, but make an exception here, as I like both for different reasons and I wouldn't have known which one to prefer. If you have a clear preference, I'd be curious to read about it.
