Brussels Town Hall is one of most beautiful town halls in Europe. It is said it has perfect proportions and an impressive tower (96 m high) topped by the archangel Saint-Michael. It was built in style of Brabantian Gothic.
The foundation stone was laid in 1402, the construction lasted to 1452. It is richly decorated with numerous statues representing nobles, saints, and allegorical figures. In 1695 the Town Hall was destroyed by fire. Soon after the destruction, the city hall was rebuilt and became a model for many similar buildings in Europe.
