Photographer's Note

I took this photo in the in the Hohe Tauern national park near Mt. Gro▀glockner. I was walking in the late afternoon when most people had gone and suddenly I saw two marmots just a few metres away. First one of them flew into the burrow but then it came out again and they watched me. Unfortunately, after some minutes other people came just when one of the marmots was getting closer to me and so it disappeared very quickly...

Marmots are typical animals of the Alps, they spend a lot of time in burrows and hibernate there through the winter. Most marmots are highly social, and use loud whistles to communicate with one another, especially when alarmed.

I resized the photo using Photoshop and added a bit of contrast.
