Photographer's Note

The Vorderer Gosausee -Front Gosau Lake-is one of the smaller lakes in the Salzkammergut. It lies at an altitude of 931m. With a length of 1.8 km, a width of max. 500 m, depth max. 82m and an area of 0.52 square kilometers . This small mountain lake is a nature reserve and characterised by very cold, clear water of drinking water quality. Because of its purity, the water provides perfect living/breeding conditions for numerous species of fish. This small lake is flanked by the impressively precipitous peaks of the Gosaukamm range (2459m). The view is good from the shoreline, and it takes a little over an hour to walk around the entire lake.
The world traveller and naturalist Alexander Freiherr von Humboldt was overwhelmed by the beauty of the lake and its crowning glory - the "mighty towers of the Dachstein", and described it in his works as "the eye of God".
