The Grocery, a photo from Lower Austria, East

Photographer's Note

Grocery in a small village in the Waldviertel, the north-eastern part of Lower Austria.
The lady is eighty years old. She never got married. She is living with her sister who is nine years younger.
Before her parents had run the business together with a farm.
Now she is still owning (and living in the) old farmhouse. The grocery is part of the house.
She is still owning some wood and some fields, but the fields are leased to younger people.
The prices are for sure higher than in supermarket chains, but you can get everything you might need in a village: nails, headscarves, icecream, postcards, sausages, ... you can ask for the best hiking paths, ... you can read orbituaries, ...

The light in this place is not the best for photos even though the place is really photogenic.

Du zeigst genau das, was die Leute hier bei TE am liebsten sehen: Relikte einer längst vergangenen, idyllischen Welt, in der noch alles heil war! Mich hat das Photo auch sofort angesprochen, nicht nur das bunte Sortiment - sondern besonders die so freundlich lächelnde Dame. Small is beautiful, das wird hier sehr eindrucksvoll demonstriert. Kompliment!

This woman is eighty?? Wow, I wonder what her e ret is is, she looks thirty years younger than that. Very nice scene, and I always love these shops where you can buy anything and everything. It seems to be a more rural thing though, similar here in Ireland.
It certainly does look like a very photogenic place, and you did a great job here with the low light.

Hello Gisi,
really well timed and framed daily scene from grocery.Reading your note the grocery seems to be the real "institution" in this small village.And definitely such small shops have much more charm and character than huge supermarkets.You were able to convey well its lovely,domestic atmosphere.

You're kidding me, right...this woman is 80 years old? No way, she looks fantastic for her age, that's impressive! I've always appreciated photos of local shops, stores, people, etc., anything that shows and represents the locale. This is a wonderful look inside at the many different and interesting products from the region. Good to know the a family owned type shop can still survive in this day of mega-malls and outlets. This kind of picture displays charm and sense of community. Thanks for sharing a peek inside this little market. Have a great day.
