Photographer's Note

A statue of Skanderbeg mounted on a horse in the Tirane Square named after him. He was an Albanian freedom fighter who rebelled against the occupying Ottomans between 1443 to 1468 AD. He lived from 1405-1468 AD when he died of malaria in Venetian controlled Lissus. Venice was a key allied power against the invading Turks. After his death the 1st Venetian Ottoman war continued until 1479. The Ottomans gradually reclaimed all the territory they had lost in Albania but the Venetians captured Cyprus.
