Photographer's Note

Laguna de Apoyo y volcán Mombacho

Laguna de Apoyo is a 200-m deep crater lake a few kilometres west of Granada. It is surrounded by steep forested slopes. Not far to the south-east is the 1345-m high volcano Mombacho, an obvious feature of the skyline around Granada.

This photo was taken exactly one year ago while walking from the village of Catarina down to the lake for a swim. With a few howler monkeys curiously watching from above, and the telephone ringing: it was already New Year in Europe! One year already. I know it’s a cliché, but time does fly. Best wishes for 2011!
