Photographer's Note

This is a photo of the "Fortaleza de San Fernando de Omoa", a fort built by Spain in the 18th century overlooking the bay. At the time, Omoa was the main seaport of Honduras but started to decline when the baywater started to silt up.

It is the largest colonial fort in Central America, and is definitely an attraction. Not a lot is known about Omoa to travellers in Honduras, who usually go to Copan and the Bay Islands, but it is a really nice and laid-back little village not too far from these more popular places. I'd have stayed there much longer if I could...
