Photographer's Note

Volcan Pacaya is an active volcano near Guatemala city, with an altitude of around 2,500 meters above sea level. You can climb Pacaya all the way to the lava fields in a couple of hours from San Vicente, but not to the crater on the very top, which is too dangerous and unstable.

Being around the lava, and walking very close to it was a very intense experience for me. The barren fields and the sense of solitude brought to my mind Malcolm Lowry's 'Under the Volcano', so I rushed down to town for a very deserved cold beer.
