Central acropolis in Tikal. The bird just crossing the place is a wild turkey.

At the time of Christ, the Great Plaza slowly took its present form. Toward the end of the early classical period, around 250 AD, Tikal was a city with great religious, cultural and economic power and a large population. The earliest date is found in Tikal Stela to the year 292 AD.
