Photographer's Note

These characters are called "Brujos Tiznaos" and they are all covered in black oil paint to remember the black heritage of the Dominican Republic. They walk on the carnival parade taunting children and doing some "black magic tricks" (mostly hand illusions). They represent the "brujos" (wizards) of ancient rites in the Southern part of the country. Despite being almost completely black with the paint, they are quite colorful with their clothes and accessories. These two took a break from the walk and were discussing their own business. The paint is fading away on the left guy, showing his real skin. The Tiznaos are an old and rich tradition of every Dominican Carnival.
