Photographer's Note

This is a view of the Indian River near where it enters Prince Rupert Bay in Portsmouth.

Portsmouth is the second largest city in Dominica. It is home to a university and medical school. At one time the area along the banks of the Indian River was slated for development. But the marshy ground and mosquitos put a stop to that. ;-). As a result, when you travel inland via the Indian River it still looks the same as did when the only inhabitants of Dominica were the Carib Indians. We traveled there in January so we were not plagued by any mosquitos.
