Photographer's Note

The Palacio de los Capitanes Generales is the most notable building surrounding Plaza de Armas. It was completed in 1791 and housed 65 Spanish colonial governors, four chiefs of U.S. occupation forces, three presidents of Cuba, 170 mayors of Havana, and the offices of the city's first official historian, Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring. It was the first project in a huge restoration effort that continues today. The Palacio now houses the Museum of the City of Havana.
