Photographer's Note

This man took several attempts to back his car into a garage in the backstreets of Havana. The exhaust fumes were dreadful! 1950s American cars are found all over Cuba. This is because the Cuban Revolution, that ended in 1959,and the subsequent blockade, prevented trade between the USA and other countries.

Havana has some amazing colonial architecture some of which is crumbling with neglect, and some being loveingly restored. UNESCO declared the historic centre (Habana Vieja) 'a cultural heritage of humanity' in 1982.
