Photographer's Note

There are a few spectacular volcanoes in Costa Rica. This one, Irazu, is the tallest, at 3431 meters. It has erupted frequently in historical times, at least 23 times since its first recorded eruption in 1723.

Dormant since 1965, its crater now contains that beautiful green lake.

When I reached the rim of the crater at the top of the volcano the lake was completely covered by clouds, as it is usually the case. I waited for a couple of hours and patience paid off: I got 5-10 minutes of not obstructed view.
