Photographer's Note
Howler monkeys are among the largest of the New World monkeys. They are famous for their loud howls. These monkeys are native to South and Central American forests. The species living in Costa Rica is mantled howler (Alouatta palliata). I captured this shot from a breakfast table of our hotel. Could it be any easier?

Amazing how swiftly you managed to grab the camera and take this wonderful monkey during breakfast, Kari.
Timing is always crucial, and the result is outstanding.
The long and thick tail enable it to balance on branches. Green vegetation is a beautiful backdrop to the scene.
Good evening,
Ike

Hello Kari,
It sounds easy to take wildlife photos without even leaving the hotel. Would it have been just as easy for the monkey to enter the breakfast room to grab itself something to eat?
Honestly I don't think this was as easy as you describe it. Animals move fast, so it must have been a combination of luck and skill behind a photo as sharp and well exposed as this.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Kari,
An excellent photo from your breakfast table. Quite a view you had from there. Great capture of the howler monkey hanging upside down from the branch of a tree. The dense forest makes a good backdrop also.

Hello Kari,
Please don't underestimate your skill at getting this superb shot! I well know that getting a photo like this "in the bag" is never easy. If anything could possibly go wrong - it definitely will! So you have done very well - maybe some luck but definitely a bit of skill and probably also quite a lot of patience!
Brilliant!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Kari,
I've seen howler monkeys in Nicaragua.
There I was explained that they are quite dangerous and aggressive animals. Fortunately, they don't come down from the trees often.
Wonderful presentation together with the exuberant green vegetation. Excellent composition.
Best regards, Paul
