Photographer's Note
Many species of toucan family nest in Costa Rica. These are Collared aracaris (Pteroglossus torquatus). The colorful and large bill, which in some large species measures more than half the length of the body, is the hallmark of toucans. Despite its size, the toucan's bill is very light. The beak allows the bird to reach deep into tree-holes to access food unavailable to other birds, and also to ransack suspended nests built by smaller birds.

Hello Kari,
A great photo of these two toucans in the tree. You got a clear view despite the leaves and branches they were trying to hide behind. Their red feathers stand out, just as their bright yellow eyes. Good sharpness.

Hello Kari,
You were lucky to find gaps between the branches so you could capture these fantastic birds without anything disturbing the view. You managed very good colours and the note provides interesting information.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Kari, just a pity for the blurred branch in the middle, but the result is excellent, with the perfect DOF and sharpness on the tucans in this difficult light and location. Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hello Kari,
Two toucans in the tree. Remarkable birds with their yellow eyes and of course huge beaks, Great capture - despite the branch that blocks the clear view.
thanks and regards,
Gerrit

Hello Kari,
These toucans are remarkable in the size of their bills, which also makes them so distinctive. These examples are different in colours to those I have experienced before but that makes them even more interesting.
Photographing birds, which are rarely co-operative, is challenging but you have been able to capture two birds on the one shot. I like how the perch makes a diagonal across the frame; it makes the birds seem to be climbing.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Kari, I had never seen toucans such as these before, and how delightful they are.
Their yellow eyes really stand out, as well as the red on their bills and on their backs.
Not an easy shot, you did very well to focus in on the birds.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Kari
Such amazing bird - he looks such a genteel chap with sensation colour and eye detail. I have never seen one in real life, I can imagine the beak can inflict serious damage. Excellent shot

Hi Kari
when I saw the title Toucan, I had to take a closer look.
We obviously don't get these birds here in Canada, so its very educational for me to even view this photo! I wonder if they use the long beaks to access fish in the water, as well as using them in trees. But I guess they're not water/fish type birds. They're so attractive and unique looking, and their beaks would have to be light in weight or they wouldn't be able to fly and they'd fall forward to the ground all the time :) excellent shot as they're burried into the trees. cheers

Hi Kari,
The leaves and the branches are framing well the birds. The point of view is showing the details of the Toucans. The light is enhancing the beauty of the colours. Have a nice day.
