Photographer's Note

This is inside Independence palace. It's a historical place in Saigon - Ho chi minh city and in Vietnam war. The palace was built in 1868 and was completed in 1871 by French. It was named Norodom at this time.
In 1954, Vietnam was split into 2 countries by Geneva Agreement, its name was changed to Independence Palace (dinh Độc Lập). Then, the palace was bombed in 1962 and it was rebuilt at 1 July 1962 and completed in 1966.
New Palace was designed by Ngo Viet Thu, a famous Vietnamese architect. And its name was still Independence Palace. This was political center of South Vietnam government.
8 April 1975, the palace was bombed again but terrorism did a small of damage to this palace.
After Vietnam war, Saigon city was changed to Ho chi minh city. And Independence palace was changed to Reunification palace (dinh Thống Nhất).
You can see inside this palace in this picture. Now, Its architecture is 1966 in shape.
Although this building is younger than many buildings in Saigon but it is the best important position in history of Saigon and South Vietnam now.
