Photographer's Note
This is a scan from a contact sheet, it's not really blurry! I'm working solely on internet cafe facilities and can't aford to print up all of my best pictures, about two thirds of the pictures I've posted have been produced in this fashion, so I'm chuffed with the score I've notched up!
Re-Post:
Well that all seems like a million years ago. I am back in the UK and have finally got around to fixing up some of my pictures! This is now a scan from a 6x4 print that I have had to extensivly correct in PS. This was mainly dust and scratch removal (due to my neg being badly damaged after all that travelling, and also the filthy scanner at my local internet cafe) using the clone stamp and smudge finger. Also leaned the color balance more towards cyan, just to dull down the red color in the plastic flowers at the base of the statue so as not to distract from the main event.
It took me about 20 mins to compose this picture! Whilst trying to squeeze into the only corner that would allow this perspective, I tore a huge hole in the seat of my pants! Shortly after actually capturing this image, a custodian of the cathedral (Notre Dame) informed us that a mass was about to start so we had to go. I packed up and had a quick scurry around to take in the rest of the building (this statue occupies an alcove directly on your left as you walk in) and discovered that all along each wall were many more similar icons of diferent saints! That'll teach me to shoot first look later, however, I am glad I took the time to make at least this one :)

First I want to thank you for the note.
I like your photo, why I dont know, but I somehow attracts me. Maybe its because of the contrast between the "virgin", the blue neon light and the background. They are 3 things that really dosent fit together, but as combination they make a interesting image.

An excellent shot Morgan, the scanning or post processing brings the necessary brilliance and sharpness that really missed in the previous version.
The environment is so weird : the mundane neon light, the naive messages nailed to the walls and different from the decorum we see in european cathedrals...
Closer to Cao Dai tacky environment than the usual roman catholic low key churches.
I think that your shot would have been even better without the brownish stall, leaving the whole scene into that strange alien like cyan cast.

Yes, I agree it's a wonderful picture. Reminds me of the blinking light 'halos' that surround the Buddha images in Myanmar.
