Photographer's Note

An early morning shot upstream of Thu Bon river outside Hoi An. Just a couple of traditional wooden fishing boats that caught my eye anchored on calm water resting at the end of a hard days work at sea.

When evening falls, the fishermen would venture out to dark night ocean waters of South China Sea, fighting all weather condition and dangers through their will to live and let their family live. It hardly matters what the weather would bring them, it is their living...

The 'painted eyes' on the bows are believed to protect them when out at sea and subsequently guide them safely back home at day break. A good nights catch means the harvest can be sold at market and their family will have enough money & food on their tables.

The task is accomplished temporarily now, and it's time to have a good break till the next nightfall when the their routine and cycle of life repeat itself......
